So I just punched a hole in the lid with a nail for the knob. I used a nut and bolt to attach the knob to the lid. It's really not necessary, but I just wanted to give it more of a canister look.
I found some stick on stencils at wal-mart to do the lettering.
Then lastly I just used a sharpee to fill in the lettering. And there you have it a temporary solution for storing your compost scraps that looks a little prettier then just an old coffee can sitting on your counter.

OH, I need to find a knob for mine. I did something very similar . Not quite as fancy but it is all flat black. Thanks for the knob idea
